went to perform yesterday for the Geyao Nus. its really a fun gig. the people there seems nice, and are all like-minded people. Seeing them makes me think of my past days in my CCA during my school times. reminds me of the times when i started on singing.
I was kinda shocked when i saw the place. Ck never really told me where the performance will be held. Alez thought it was a competition held by them. I thought it was held in their school auditorium or a small CCA room maybe ha. All of us heard of the place but we just cant remember where we heard it from or what the place is.
Im quite embarressed as my group alone occupied so many seats and after they finished the sixth song, i started to panic. In the past gigs, audiences were more or less quite far from me. But this time, it is up close and personal. The song genre we are into is also different from them. Im afraid they will think that we are aliens making noisy music. im really wondering how the hell im gonna sing "shutup". The sound was not really good as usual, theres no monitor for me, but we still just did our best.
Straight after we finished the first song, there was a pause of slience followed by applause. I felt so relieved after i heard the claps.
To me i think this is a boost in morale for Rn at the moment. There are not much plans yet. Hope we can plan our next step soon.

3 more days to our gig at fort canning. the days seem long and slow. I really wonder whats the outcome on that day. Kinda regret not going for the Aikawa Nanase performance last week. used to listen to her songs for a while.
These days all of us have been quite busy with our work. especially alvin and alez. and of course, congrats to alez for finishing his super long studies. hope he wont get even more busy after his studies. i think we need a gathering soon. Ck is planning for going overseas and i think i need to get out of here for a while too. life seems to be stagnant for me here.
ck was asking about the mediatation course. im still considering about joining. Im often late for my past lessons and i sleep during the lessons. I know its quite bad but im just tired after work. Sqeezing thru the crowds in Bishan and ending up in that serene and quiet place. The only thing i wanna do is to sleep.
Anyway do drop by to the perfomance this sun.. you pay $10 to see bands that spend more than 10 mths preparing, and people that spend 10 yrs of pursuing their interest.

well its been a long long time since i wrote a blog here. those i wrote in the past are mainly all in the rustynailz website. But i guess i will write more frequently here as im really sleepy during work.
for RustyNailz, we will be having a major gig on 18th. it will be a very important gig for us as we will be playing most of our songs and its a chance to show people what RustyNailz is all about from our music. Im also very excited to see foreign bands like Bamboo and the China and Korean bands. There are currently less than 10 chinese rock bands performing around in this scene. We are really honoured to perform with bands from China on such a big event.
for the past 1 year with RustyNailz, ive learnt many things but many questions arises too. I also often wondered what is success to me? How far will i want my band to go? Im I a musician or a performer? Will i continue doing what i do when im old and have a family and kids? Will i be called selfish for chasing my own personal dreams and not earning any real money home at all? The higher we climb the more the pressure there will be and the higher we may fall. Will I be able to take that?
haa its lucky that i have ck on msn during work to discuss these bothering questions with me once a while.

Summary of progress for RN from beginning of year:
1) Changes to Rn lineup
Rn’s line up was finalized with Bryan and CK "con" into joining Alez and Frankie early this year
Drummer Soon left Rn for other endeavors while Sam, a progressive metal drummer joined Rn. Thank you Soon’s contributions! Welcome Sam!
2) Finding Rn’s sound
Rn has been working towards finding it’s own sound in our song writing, arrangement etc. I find that memebers of rn all had different styles of playing: Sam is progressive metal/hard rock, Bryan has his own theory of singing, Alez’s melodic, Frankie’s chromatic basslines, as for myself, I am like "rojak", mixture of genre. Together we look for what we call " Rn’s sound "
3) Practice and Upgrading of gear
Rn finds more time for individual practice after temporarily stopping to gig. Both guitarists upgrading the gears. Frankie also looking at a 6 string bass.
4) Ep
We are into planning the release our Ep from now till early next year. This will be one of the most important milestone for Rn.
5) More songs of different genre
We have about 9 to 10 songs now. I hope to double it by mid of next year. And more of different genre. Personally, I find great satisfaction in writing songs for Rn becoz from melody writing, to arrangement of each and every note/beats, to lyrics, to singing, is all done by the band itself. Regardless of whether the song eventually can find its recognition in the industry, it’s already "recognized" by Rn

hihi, this is my first post here and im the vocalist. everything has been fine for the past 1/2 year and although RN didnt really make it real far but we surely has improved alot over these months. all of us learnt many things and sometimes we also do faced setbacks but it made us stronger. ck contributed 2 to 3 songs to the band and more songs will be up in the coming months, but currently we are still finalizing the songs for the Ep.
We need a keyboardist badly. Real badly. A DJ will be fine too. Anyway we have stopped all public gigs these few months to prepare for the Ep and i hope it will bring something good. If not, the process is already also enjoyable enough.
